I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. It was Saturday morning, and Cody had barely survived another family dinner the night before. He sighed just thinking about it. He hated the weekends because his parents expected him to visit, staying over Friday and Saturday. Usually, he’d come up with excuses not to go; but, that weekend, he hadn’t been able to come up with a believable one. That morning, Cody had woke up before the rest of his family. So, he quietly left, leaving a note on the table saying he’d be back later if none of his friends invited him to do something. He stopped by the coffee shop and had stayed there for a while, drinking coffee and writing a bit. Once he’d wasted a hour and a half there, he decided to gather his things and do something he loved to do…shopping. He needed new jeans anyway, most of his were tattered at the bottom or were falling apart because he wore them so much. Plus, he could always use new shirts; and, since his dad was buying, it made it all the better.
Cody didn’t usually use his dad’s credit card when he went shopping. He usually used his own money earned from random part-time jobs he’d held over the past few years and summer jobs. But, he was in a slightly bitter mood toward his father that morning. It was slightly out of character for him; but, he wasn’t always as nice as he seemed to the rest of the world. Young and naive as he may be, he did get angry at times and sometimes acted out before thinking through. He walked into his favorite store and lifted his sunglasses so they were perched on top of his head. He greeted the workers who knew Cody pretty well by that point. Cody may have liked shopping solo, but it was always more fun with a friend. He hoped he’d possibly run into someone he was friends with, or at least someone he was acquainted with. It’d make the day much better. With a small smile on his face, he began looking through a pile of new t-shirts not paying much attention to anything else. Jonah sauntered into the store, not really sure why he was here. But it was a Saturday, and he needed a break from playing at the Met. He'd already dropped his guitar off back at the dorms, and was going solo. He was still trying to shake off the happenings of last night when some guy had almost taken his guitar while he'd been talking to some girl, who he figured was the guy's accomplice.
But he had it back now. That meant it was all good, finally... Now he just needed some more jeans and maybe a new hat, considering his favorite was getting worn out. As Jonah walked towards the back, he saw a few things he liked, but nothing in particular he needed. Today, he was dressed like all normal days, with a AC/DC T-shirt under a partially unzipped black and red striped hoodie. As always, his eyes were layered in eyeliner. And, of course, he had on his hat.
Looking around, Jonah spotted Cody, who he kind of knew from school. He knew the guy was pretty cool to most of his friends, so Jonah figured he'd go and get to know him better. As he reached Cody, he started talking. "Yo, Cody!" He was, in general, a pretty bold and outgoing guy, though Jonah chose not to associate much with teachers. He was only at school because he needed a degree in college. It would help him with his future career as a musician, hopefully.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody laughed softly to himself at the ridiculous saying on one of the t-shirts he put aside. It wasn’t ridiculous as in it was actually funny; it was ridiculous as in it was something that Cody couldn’t believe anyone would willingly put on. Sometimes he was amazed at the crap that they’d make that people would actually buy. He started a bit when he heard someone say his name kind of close to him. He’d not expected the sudden voice so, it was just a little bit of a shock. He smiled when he saw who had spoken. Jonah was a senior from Larkin, and a really talented musician. Other than that, Cody didn’t know much about him. They’d talked once or twice, but it’d been nothing really. “Hey, Jonah, what’s up?” he asked cheerfully. He may have not known the older boy too well, but it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t enjoy the company. Anything was better than being stuck at his parents’ place; and, he could use a distraction and mood lift. Which, of course, had been the whole reason behind the shopping trip anyway. From what Cody knew of Jonah, the guy was pretty cool and seemed to get along with people well. At least he didn’t have to worry about being picked on or something. Jonah grinned and blew a stray strand of hair out of his face. He suddenly realized just how broke he was- all he had in his pocket was a twenty and a few ones. Well, at least he could still get his hat. He remembered the night prior; he'd spent most of his money on fixing his Stratocaster after one of his roomies had screwed up the paint and strings.
He shrugged. "Getting another one of these, I suppose, since that's about all I can afford right now. You?" He asked, gesturing to his plaid hat. It was fading and it needed to replaced, but Jonah didn't care. It matched just about everything and it was comfortable enough to wear just about anyplace. So he hadn't considered investing in a new one until now. And it looked like they had some here!
Jonah looked over the hats displayed on the back wall and saw that there were a few similar to his own. All he could hope was that thirty-four dollars would be enough to get one, because you never knew with these stores; things got pricey every now and again.Well, good, he thought, turning back to Cody.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. “Oh, I’m just being a disrespectful kid, I guess,” he replied with a small shrug. “I had to sit through a family dinner last night, which always kind of kills my weekends. I’m using my dad’s credit card to get whatever the hell I want.” He knew he sounded like nothing more than a spoilt rich kid. While he may have been a rich kid and could have whatever he wanted growing up, he never really acted like one. He hated flaunting his parents’ money around and he didn’t want to be liked just for the fact his parents were loaded. “I feel kind of bad about it actually…Plus, it makes me sound like the kids I hate.” Cody didn’t know if he’d actually end up getting anything. Because the more he thought about it, the more he felt bad about using money that wasn’t his to get things he didn’t really need. Sure, he did kind of need new clothes, but he could pay for it himself. “Really, most of the reason I came here was just to get away from the house…to possibly come up with some excuse to not go back to my parents’ tonight.” His parents really didn’t like that Cody liked to stay in the dorms when they lived in the city. But, he hated living at home because he never got any privacy; which made his secret all that harder to keep. But, honestly, it wasn’t much of a secret from anyone but his parents anymore.[/blockquote] tag;; Jonah/open word count;; ooc;;

Jonah nodded. He had been a rather disrespectful son himself. In fact, so much so that his parents were back in California and he was here. And he hadn't seen them in three years. His tuition for Larkin had been from his own money, and he still played almost daily to keep some money in his pocket. To live on. Well, that just sounded real rich, didn't it?
"Well, it's a pretty good excuse," he said. "At least you got somebody to get mad at you. I mean, it sounds all good that I don't, but I kinda miss home. Y'know?" He realized he might of said too much, but oh well. He couldn't exactly take it back when he felt like it.
Jonah looked around at some of the other things in the store. They had a pretty big selection, of... everything, it looked like. He added, "Yeah, it's a good excuse. I think you could get lost in here if you weren't careful." He laughed to himself and fixed his hat so it was on just perfect. It annoyed him to have it lopsided whatsoever.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. He smiled at Jonah’s remark about him having his parents there. As much as Cody complained about his parents, Jonah was right about that. There were people worse off in the family department than he was. And that thought alone made him feel a little guilty. He glanced around the store at the other boy’s comment about how big it was and laughed a little as well. “Yeah, that’s true,” the store was pretty large, and slightly maze-like. Most places there were. “You know, I don’t even really like this place,” he said with a small sigh. He preferred to shop at places people probably wouldn’t expect knowing his background. He got most of his clothes from second-hand places in the US. He preferred getting them there, because you never knew what you could find, and more than likely, no one else around would have it. If he were going to get new clothes, he preferred Hot Topic in the US, and Camden Market or Carnaby Street in London. “The prices are ridiculous…as most things around here are.” That was one thing that Cody could never wrap his mind around, the pricing of the shopping in the area. Why couldn’t things be normally priced? tag;; Jonah/open word count;; ooc;; ick, sry, idk what happened 2 my muse i blame having to fill out the FAFSA

Jonah sighed. The thought of home did make him miss it, just a little. Well... a lot. He was a runaway. And now that felt pretty awful. But that scar had healed as much as it would, and Jonah was doing pretty well on his own. If his plans worked out, he'd try and go back home when he'd made a name for himself and could actually offer them something in return for letting him back into the house.
He looked again at the back wall. "God, the prices are insane. Can't get a damn thing for a decent price. But I really do need another one of these," he said, talking about his hat. He wondered how much a new one would really cost, considering they were probably much more... designer. Which didn't really matter, in Jonah's eyes.
Jonah shrugged when Cody said he didn't much like the place. It was okay. Big, and expensive. "Welcome to New York City," he snorted sarcastically. The place was huge. And who would've guessed you could cram so many people into such a small area? Guess that's why you gotta live 'up' here, Jonah thought.
