And I don’t want the world to see me…
…Cause I don’t think that they’d understand. After hitting his alarm clock for the fifth time that morning, Alex got up. He tiredly changed, did his hair, and put on some eyeliner. He’d not slept too well the night before; and, he was in need of some good coffee that morning. Checking his appearance one last time, he left his dorm and made his way to the Starbucks that was near-by. It was late morning, and he knew there wouldn’t be many people there. With a small smile on his face, he ordered his coffee before taking it to one of the booths in the back corner. He climbed into the seat and sat his coffee on the table. After pulling his feet up onto the seat, he reached into the messenger bag he’d brought with him and pulled out his sketchbook. He fished in the bag for a pencil and smiled when he grasped it. Alex turned in the seat so his back was up against the window where the late morning, winter sunshine came streaming in from. He bent his legs up so he could use them as a table as he sat there in the booth.
A small smile stayed on his face as he worked, working on a landscape he envisioned in his mind. He only stopped periodically to take a drink of his coffee, and then he’d continue working. When Alex really got into his work the world could end around him and he’d have no idea. He’d become incredibly focused, his brow furrowed in concentration. He spent many Saturday mornings in that back booth drawing for hours. He liked being able to escape into his work. When he was lost in his work, he didn’t have to think about the things he tried so hard to run from and the things he wanted to hide from.tag;; cody word count;; 305 ooc;;

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody had never been a morning person. He dreaded the mornings, and was always very happy when he could sleep in. That Saturday, he got up and ready before noon, which was very surprising. He was supposed to meet some friends that afternoon, though; and, he wanted to go into Starbucks and get some coffee…maybe write a bit. He grabbed his messenger bag that was a permanent home for the journal that housed all his lyrics. Armed with his coat and a pair of gloves, he set out on the short journey to the Starbucks that was near-by. Once out on the sidewalk, he made his way toward his destination at the fast pace set by the other pedestrians.
A few minutes later, he arrived at the coffee shop that housed ridiculously expensive, but really good coffee. Cody stopped just inside the shop to pull off his coat. He froze mid-motion seeing a very familiar face sitting in the back corner, working furiously. Cody then went up to the counter and ordered two coffees. After adding the right amount of creamer and sugar, he took the two coffees to the back booth that Alex was occupying. Cody knew that Alex was not as uncaring as he seemed. He wasn’t really a bad guy; he’d just had a run-in with a bad crowd. Alex didn’t hang out with those people, but it didn’t mean they didn’t still affect him. Cody sat the second coffee cup down on the table next to the almost empty one already sitting there in front of the boy that tried so hard to avoid Cody as much as possible. “Hi, Alex,” he said, a small smile on his face. No matter how hard Alex tried to get Cody to hate him, the junior refused to do so. Hating people was a big extreme, something he didn’t like to do. No matter how annoying and infuriating Alex may be, Cody couldn’t hate him. tag;; alex word count;; 326 ooc;;

And I don’t want the world to see me…
…Cause I don’t think that they’d understand. Squinting at the drawing that was propped up on his legs, Alex started working on the shading, adding shadows and depth to the drawing. As usual, he lost all track of time as he worked. He was so submerged in his drawing, he only barely registered the fact that someone set down another cup of coffee next to his nearly finished, cold one. But, then, he heard a familiar voice that made him press a bit too hard on his pencil and the tip of it snapped off. He looked up at the younger boy and said, “Cody…” He turned in the seat so his back was no longer against the window but was against the back of the booth, and his feet were on the floor once more. Fucking hell, he thought as he set his notebook down on the table top. He put the broken pencil in his bag as he tried to think of the right thing to say. Maybe it’d be best if he didn’t say anything, as to not encourage the younger boy.
Alex didn’t want Cody to be there. He didn’t want to see the other boy and he definitely didn’t want to talk to him. But, not talking to him and not being around him was difficult. He had this infectious personality that made almost everyone like to be around him. It was easier for Alex to ignore him when he was just avoiding him completely. There wasn’t much he could do to avoid Cody at that present time, though. He was literally trapped in a corner. Alex eyed the cup of coffee that Cody had sat down before looking up at the 6’2” junior. “Uhm…what d’you want?” His voice was cold and indifferent in a way that came naturally after using it for many years toward his parents and his “friends”.tag;; cody word count;; 309 ooc;;

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. He watched as Alex moved around, sensing the tension that appeared in the older boy once he realized Cody was there. One word? Alex had avoided him for a few weeks, and he just said Cody? The junior crossed his arms as best he could holding the cup of coffee that was still in his hand. Alex stayed quiet as he put his newly broken pencil in his bag and then eyed the cup of coffee that Cody had set down. “Uhm…what d’you want?” Alex’s tone was cold enough to make Cody cringe a bit. “You know, this whole hot and cold thing is really annoying,” replied Cody. He hated how he and Alex could be friends, sitting around talking about anything and everything and go to Alex avoiding him for a few weeks. Cody knew that Alex had overcome a drug problem after being sent to rehab; he hoped that the senior wasn’t getting back into it again. Cody bit his lip, trying to think of the right thing to say.
When he couldn’t think of anything deep or profound, he sighed and said, “I saw you over here and thought you could use more coffee.” He knew Alex liked having coffee or soda when he was working. Whether or not Alex liked to admit it, Cody knew a lot about him. Yet, at the same time, the elder boy was nothing but a big mystery to the singer. With another sigh, Cody sat down next to Alex, knowing and not caring that Alex wouldn’t like it. “So after today with me forcing my presence on you are you going to start avoiding me again?” tag;; alex word count;; 276 ooc;;

And I don’t want the world to see me…
…Cause I don’t think that they’d understand. He sighed softly when Cody sat down next to him. Didn’t he get the Alex didn’t want him around? Wasn’t avoiding him enough of a hint? Honestly, you’d think that spotting someone in the hall stopping and walking the other direction after seeing you you’d give up…but apparently Cody’ didn’t. Alex eyed the coffee that Cody had brought him. He’d always been a coffee person; but, it seemed slightly purpose defeating for him to take it. Cody asked if Alex was going to start avoiding him again, and he couldn’t help but smirk a bit. He hadn’t stopped avoiding him. Like the junior had said, Cody’s presence was being forced upon him at that time. He chose to ignore the question, saying “If it’s so annoying then why do you put up with it?” He didn’t get why Cody would continue to be around if the teen found him so annoying. It’d be better if Cody just gave up already. As annoying as Cody may be, Alex did have to hand it to him. He was a stubborn ass. It wasn’t often he met someone as stubborn as Cody could be.
Alex sighed again as he pushed the sketchbook out of the way and then rested his elbow on the table. He rested his forehead against his fist as he looked over at Cody. He had no idea what to do or say. Nothing seemed to throw the guy off. And, Alex found that he hated being around Cody for any prolonged period of time. Because the longer he was around the other teen, the more his guard started to fall. Alex couldn’t let that happen; he refused to let his guard fall, especially for some guy who honestly had no idea all the shit he’d seen and everything he’d been through. Cody lived a very sheltered life compared to Alex, and though the older boy was glad for that, he knew that Cody would never understand the way his though process worked and why he acted as he did. Hell, Alex wasn’t even sure all the time why he was like he was.tag;; cody word count;; 354 ooc;;

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. He frowned a bit at Alex’s question. He wasn’t completely sure how to answer that question. He wasn’t even sure of the answer himself. Why did he put up with it? He bit his lip as he thought about it, looking forward instead of at Alex. He took a drink of his coffee before sitting it on the table and looking at Alex. Cody twisted his cup of coffee back and forth in-between his hands. He flicked his hair back out of his eyes before glancing down at the cheap, disposable cup. He still wasn’t quite sure how to answer the question. A part of him told him that it wasn’t worth it; but, then, he’d remember the times they’d stayed up late just talking and hanging out. He’d remember the parties they’d gone to and had fun. He remembered how Alex had turned down alcohol at a lot of the parties because Cody had asked him to. Cody had seen Alex’s caring side, and he was just stubborn enough to not let it go.
Cody sighed softly before looking at the other boy again. “Because,” he finally said to answer the question, “even though you either don’t want to admit it or you don’t see it…you’re not a bad guy. A bit of a jerk…but you’re not a bad guy.” He smiled slightly before taking another drink of his not-so-hot-coffee. He was almost completely positive Alex wouldn’t be happy with his answer; but, it was the truth. And, he thought that maybe Alex needed to hear it. tag;; alex word count;; 258 ooc;;

And I don’t want the world to see me…
…Cause I don’t think that they’d understand. Alex watched Cody as he sat there thinking, obviously thrown off by the question. He watched as Cody flipped his long hair out of his face as both of them were prone to doing. He subconsciously reached up to tuck Cody’s dark hair back out of his face, but caught himself and brushed his own hair out of his face instead. When he lowered his hand again, Cody looked over at him. “Because, even though you either don’t want to admit it or you don’t see it…you’re not a bad guy. A bit of a jerk…but you’re not a bad guy.” Alex just sat there, looking at Cody, not knowing what to say. What do you say to someone who crawls under your skin and makes you want to pull your hair out but at the same time is so damn adorable you want nothing more than to hug them to death? “Cody…you…I…it…fuck. God, you’re so damn annoying,” Alex said as he sat up and crossed his arms. He sighed and closed his eyes for a few seconds before looking at Cody again. “Just, tell me…please. What the fuck do I have to say to you to get you to go away? I mean, honestly, I don’t...i don’t know what to say or do anymore. I just…I don’t.” Alex shook his head slightly, at a loss as to what else to do or say. He was tired and fed up and his head was killing him. He sighed again, in an almost defeated manner as he waited for a response from the younger boy.tag;; cody word count;; 264 ooc;;

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody sat there with a sad smile on his face. Then he finished off the last of his coffee. “I have to go,” he said as he checked the time. “I’m meeting some friends.” He got up and walked over to the trashcan to throw away the cup before returning to the booth to get the bag he’d brought with him. He dug through the bag as he said, “I’m not going to force my presence on you anymore. So, you can be happy I guess.” Cody was tired of trying to break through the older teen’s barriers, but he wasn’t giving up completely. He pulled out a sharpie marker and took the lid off before grabbing Alex’s arm. He started writing his number on the senior’s forearm. “My number’s been changed since I last gave it to you. If you ever want to talk to me or whatever, call. But, I’m not going to call you first and I’m not going to do this again.” He put the lid back on the sharpie and put the marker back into his bag. He flipped his hair out of his face again and smiled sadly once more. “I’ve made all the moves I can think of. The next one’s yours.” Cody readjusted his messenger bag on his shoulder before giving a small wave. Then, he turned and walked out of the building with a heavy sigh. He wasn’t looking forward to seeing his friends as much anymore. tag;; alex word count;; ooc;;

And I don’t want the world to see me…
…Cause I don’t think that they’d understand. The senior watched as a sad smile crossed Cody’s face. After finishing the coffee, Cody stated he had to leave. Alex didn’t say anything, he just sat there watching as Cody threw away the cup and started digging through his bag. “I’m not going to force my presence on you anymore. So, you can be happy I guess.” Alex almost sighed with relief with this statement. Cody would leave him alone. He could have pulled out of Cody’s grasp, but he didn’t. He just sat there as the younger boy wrote his number on his arm. “If you ever want to talk to me or whatever, call.” He nearly scoffed saying ‘like that’ll happen’…but, he didn’t. He found that he couldn’t say anything. He just sat there dumbly as Cody continued talking. “I’ve made all the moves I can think of. The next one’s yours.” Without saying anything else, Cody left the coffee shop, leaving Alex sitting there processing everything. He glanced down at the number written in black sharpie on his arm and then back up at the door Cody had just left out of. He wasn’t sure what to do next. If anything, he felt more confused and upset than he had when he arrived in the coffee shop that morning.tag;; word count;; ooc;;
