Alice grinned and nodded as he talked about his foster family. It would be great just to have two parents, to her. But she was happy with Carter and Nathan, even with a few lost or broken pieces of the family puzzle. They were two amazing brothers, and she loved them more than she could ever say.
"That's cool. I had three brothers. What we got now is pretty good, though." She didn't go into much detail and kept her phrasing vague. Alice didn't talk to anyone about her family until she knew she coul fully trust them. And considering the brokeness of her family tree, trust had become a major issue. There were only two people right now to who she would discuss it, not including God- Her two older brothers. They were her lifelines.
"Things change. You kinda have to move along and go on with life. I've done pretty darn well," she ranted. Alice tended to be good at that; preaching things that nobody cared about. Oh well, that was who she was and she was going to change it for anybody. She noticed that she'd finally gotten Tomas to actually talk to her, too. It was a start.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas was slightly confused by Alice’s little rant and her vagueness. But, he wasn’t going to ask anything, figuring she was speaking vaguely for a reason. He was always really conscious about other people’s feelings. He didn’t like upsetting other people, mostly because it made him feel guilty and then he’d want to make them feel better only to find that he couldn’t. He really wasn’t so good at the consoling thing. “Did your brothers go to school here?” he asked with a small smile, wanting to know a bit more about her and the two people she seemed to hold highly in her life. She tended to have a smile on her face or a happy gleam in her eye when talking about her brothers; and, he could tell that they meant a lot to her. Kimmy was his support; even though she was three years younger they always turned to each other. She was quite mature for her age; but, she would often turn to Tomas for help. Tomas had no idea what he’d have done without Kimmy throughout the years.tag;; alice/open word count;; ooc;;

Alice shrugged. "Nathan does." She said, remembering how she almost never saw him. Actually, last time she'd seen him, he was pissed at her because she'd woken him up a few minutes early. She hadn't seen him since she left the house at all. Oh well, sh'ed apologize later.
She added, "Well, Carter dropped out of college, and Liam would be here as a freshman. But, y'know... Like I said, things change. People move on." She ended with a smile and tried to convince herself that she was okay without three people in her family. But she also knew that she couldn't get them back, so if that was just a little bit of her burden lifted, it was alright.
Alice wasn't really uncomfortable with the thought of talking about her brother's suicide, she just didn't want anyone to feel bad for her. And she didn't like making people feel depressed. It was a pointless thing to do, especially to someone she'd just gotten to open up a little bit.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas watched with a small smile as she talked about her brothers. She seemed to be trying to force herself to not be upset about something. “Kimmy wants to go here next year,” he said softly, remembering the long talk they’d had last time he visited home. They’d talked about everything from school to how any boy Kimmy ever dated would have to meet his approval. “She’s kind of upset that her first year here would be my last.” He laughed softly, remembering the younger girl pouting and crossing her arms when he reminded her of that. She had started whining and complaining how it wasn’t fair, that he should stay there until she graduated as well. Tomas went over and sat at the chair he usually sat in, placing his guitar on the floor. He knew the bell would ring soon, and for the first time in a while, he was dreading it. He really enjoyed talking with Alice, and didn’t like the idea of once again being in a roomful of people he didn’t know and probably would never know. He was looking forward to hearing her song, though. He had a strong feeling it’d be great, even if she seemed apprehensive about it. tag;; alice/open word count;; ooc;;

Alice smiled knowingly. Liam, well, when he maintained a normal state of mind, had really been looking forward to being in the same school as Nathan and Alice. He had been such a great kid, too. She'd never forget him at all.
"Yeah. At least you'll get a year together. Although I've figured that sometimes it's best not to get your sibling mad before school or they'll hunt you out." She grinned mischieveiously as she heard Nathan's voice in the hallway. Sometimes it was a curse for him to know her schedule. Alice laughed when his voice faded out of range.
"There goes my ride home," she said, sighing. He'd forgive her, though. Hopefully. There were lots of taxicabs in new york, though. She could always find some way to get home, so Alice wasn't particularly worried.
She moved to take the seat next to Tomas. It was kind of nice to sit next to someone that wouldn't annoy the hell out of her. That's where she always seemed to end up; next to some nerd or loser who wouldn't shut up no matter how much she cussed at them. Today was definitely off to a better start than normal.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. He laughed lightly at her comment about not angering your sibling before school. “I’ll have to remember that,” he said with a smile. He’d learned from experience not to make Kimmy mad. She had quite the temper and wasn’t afraid to use it. Tomas could only remember one time in which he’d actually made her mad; he didn’t tend to make anyone angry or upset because he always felt terrible about it. He was often told that sometimes his heart was a bit too big for his own good. He smiled at Alice when she sat down on the chair next to him. He pulled his feet up into the seat, wrapping his arms around his legs. He tended to sit tucked up in a chair a lot. He wasn’t sure why, but it was comfortable and a habit he couldn’t remember starting. He rested his chin on his knees as he tried to think of something to say. He wanted to know more about Alice but knew they were on a really small time schedule at the time. Plus, he wasn’t quite sure what to ask about. Honestly, he was terrible at getting to know people.
He bit his lip for a second before saying, “Are any of your friends involved in the music program too? My best friend, Cody, is. He’s a bit insane; but, I’ve known him for years. He’s like family now.” Tomas always liked being around Cody. Whenever the other boy was around, he felt relaxed and never had any problems just talking. There was just something about being around him that was calming. He had a feeling it was the strong, positive energy that practically radiated off the boy almost constantly. Tomas liked feeling calm and relaxed a whole lot more than scatterbrained and awkward like he usually did.tag;; alice/open word count;; 305 ooc;;

Alice was all for the music, and so were most of her friends. Of course, she tried to have a life outside of it, but that was kind of hard most of the time, since she was usually all wrapped up in her musical studies. "Well, aside from my brother... Yeah, the majority of the people I spend time with are music freaks." She laughed. Alice was definitely a 'music freak.'
Suddenly, Alice felt a cold chill come over her body, but it disappeared, so she ignored it. She didn't usually have much control over her body in the first place. She looked over at Tomas and wondered what to say next. That was a first; usually Alice was the one who had to choose what to say because she had so many thoughts running through her mind.
"Yup. All my brothers were big on music too. Carter was about to get his degree in music theory." Alice was beginning to trust Tomas a little more so she relented and asked, "You probably wanna know what's going on with me, right? It's okay, I'll tell you if you're curious." She tried to smile so that he knew it was alright to ask. But Alice was going to burst if she didn't tell somebody, and she thought she may have just found the one person that wouldn't ever tell her secret.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas smiled when Alice said she spent most of her time with ‘music freaks’. That was definitely a good way to describe the people he tended to hang out around as well. He’d just never used the term before. He glanced up at the clock before looking over at her again as she talked about her brothers. Tomas looked slightly surprised at her question. When she tried to smiled he smiled back slightly before saying, “Yea, I kind of was wondering…but, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want. But, I mean, if you want to I’ll listen.” Tomas was never one to pry into people’s lives about whatever secrets they may hold. Sure, he liked knowing whatever he can about the people around him; but, if they had a secret they wanted to keep, then it was their business. All he would ever do was reassure his friends that if they wanted to talk he’d listen. He was a very good listener. He smiled slightly again in a reassuring way. He respected people’s privacy enough that if she decided not to tell him, it’d be fine with him; and, if she did then he’d listen but, he’d never tell anyone else. He didn’t tell anyone other people’s secrets and he really hated gossip.tag;; alice/open word count;; ooc;;

Alice took a deep breath. She was just glad there was finally someone she could talk to. A secret keeper. Even though it wouldn't be a life-threatening thing for it to get out, Alice didn't want a whole lot of people to know. But Tomas, she'd begun to trust him. Hopefully her gut had been right.
"Well," she began, swallowing. Liam was my younger brother. He'd be fifteen now. But our parents left he four of us when I was eleven. We all tried to live with just eachother, but it didn't work, because we had to keep moving. Everyone did their part to get some more money, like I had to sing, but it still didn't work. Last year, Liam committed s-suicide. So... I-it's just the three of us now."
She was able to finish without stuttering too badly. She was shaking, but not visibly. It was just something that came with the agony of her trying past. She tried to remember happier days, but where the story ended was always the same. It was a lose-lose kind of thing.
"Yeah, the Rooneys are a mess now. But we get by." She ended with a nervous smile. She could only hope it hadn't been too much for Tomas... It was alot to throw upon somebody else, and it wasn't even his burden to bear. She kind of felt guilty telling him all of the story because she didn't know what kind of reaction he would have. Again, Alice tried to compose herself.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas wasn’t sure what to say when she finished speaking. He didn’t want to say he knew how she felt because it’d be a downright lie. He didn’t want to say that he was sorry because it seemed so…well, it just didn’t seem good enough. He knew that he hated when people said they were sorry when they heard he’d been in a home and never really knew his parents. His situation was different; but, he knew he wouldn’t like to hear that someone was sorry if he’d been in that situation. He was glad that she trusted him enough to tell him, though. Because he knew talking about something like that couldn’t be easy. Tomas couldn’t even begin to imagine what he’d do if Kimmy had done that. The thought alone was a bit too much to handle. He smiled caringly and said, “I can’t even begin to imagine how horrible that’d be.” He reached over and lightly squeezed her arm. “I…I’m not so good with words, but if you ever need someone to talk to…I’m a really good listener.” It was more than true that Tomas wasn’t too good with words, but he often found that sometimes the best thing to do for someone is to just listen and provide support. Tomas knew that he liked having someone to talk to whenever he could find the right words to say.tag;; alice/open word count;; ooc;;
