I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody Trümper made his way through the hallways to the music classroom. When he went in the classroom was empty. It didn’t surprise him too much, he was early anyway. He’d wanted to get there to work on his music composition assignment before the others arrived. He was having a bit of difficultly with it; but, he wasn’t about to give up. It had to be perfect, and he was determined to find the right note. There was just one spot in it that seemed off, and his goal was to figure it out and make it better before class started. He dropped his messenger bag by the keyboard he used during class and sat down on the stool next to it. After plugging in the headphones, he pulled out the sheet music and set it up. He slid on the headphones and started working, playing the song while trying to think about it structurally.
After five minutes of working, he glanced up at the clock. Students would start pouring in about ten minutes. He sighed and glanced at the sheet music before grabbing his pencil and making some notes. He wasn’t quite sure why he’d taken a music composition course; he was more of a singer than a musician. He’d thought it’d be fun, though. But, he was being proved wrong with the assignment. Were it not for his strive to do everything as near to perfection as he could, he would have just turned in the assignment as it was. It was good, but not good enough in his eyes. He yawned as he bent forward to examine the sheet music a bit closer and made another small note on it. Cody would’ve asked his brother for help, but his pride got in the way of that. His twin had said he’d go begging for help within the first big assignment he got in that class, and Cody was determined to prove him wrong. tag;; open word count;; 326 ooc;; hi!

Jessica never really minded if she was early for class, especially if it was Music. That was what she was really here for after all. After getting her sparkly guitar from her room and getting her sheets of music, she began to make her way down to the music hall. Waving to a few familiar people, a bright smile on her face. She always enjoyed talking to people and getting to know strangers. She was always the type of person you could approach and always gave off that aura that she was approachable, even to strangers. With the heels she was wearing she was standing at 6'1 right now. Jessica never minded being taller than most girls, in fact she enjoyed it. It gave her the advantage against most people and it was easier for her to get the attention while on stage. The only downside was having to look down so much, with her girlfriends anyway. Heels clicking against the floor, Jessica entered the room and noticed she was not the only person there. "Hey." She said cheerfully, though she wasn't sure who this guy was, or if he could hear her.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody sat up straight as he worked on the song. He smiled slightly as he listened to it, but the smile left his face when he reached that one part. He was starting to get frustrated and was about to just toss the entire thing and start from scratch when he heard someone speak. Hey. He glanced up and saw a blond girl he’d seen around campus. He thought she was older, but he wasn’t too sure. Then, Cody looked at the clock and saw there was still quite a bit of time left before the bell rang. “Uh, hi,” he said as he pulled off the headphones. He wasn’t used to any of the many students in that class showing up early. Usually on the days he would, he’d be the only one. He smiled brightly at her and said, “I’m Cody.”He had this thing about liking to know the names of the people he interacted with, even if he only ever saw them once in his life. “So, uh…not to be nosy or anything; but, why’re you here early?” He hoped she didn’t take the question offensively or anything. He was just curious as to why someone else would be early for class. He was only there early to work on his project. tag;; open word count;; ooc;;

Jessica realized how caught up into his work he was, and hesitated by the doorway. She wasn't sure if she should leave or not. However when he greeted her she looked up at him with a smile, "Hey." She repeated, her bright smile staying put on her features. She noticed that he was looking at the clock and she wondered if she had disturbed him, which she felt bad about. Sliding the guitar strap off from her shoulder she moved to gently put her guitar against the wall. It was rather girly looking, being sparkly and all, but it was her favorite guitar. She had a few others, but you could say this was her lucky guitar. When he introduced herself, Jessica moved forward to shake his hand. "Jessica Stop, you can call me Jess if you want though." She said, her southern accent present in her speech. She noticed his hesitation to what she assumed was going to be a question, and her brows furrowed. When he asked why she was here so early she laughed softly, "I don't know, just thought I'd get here early." She explained, not offended by his question at all. "Why? Does that bother you?" Jessica asked softly as she moved to take a seat.

...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody took her hand as she introduced herself and smiled at the unique last name she had. He could honestly say he’d never heard that one before. Jess had this aura about her that Cody could sense from the moment she walked into the room. She seemed like a genuinely kind person and had this slightly bubbly energy that radiated off of her and was pretty contagious. When she asked if her being there bothered him, he shook his head. “No; it’s just all the times I’ve shown up early there’s never been someone else here,” he replied. He smiled at her as his eyes fell on her sparkly guitar. “You a musician? I can play guitar a little, and the piano a bit more…but I prefer to sing.” Cody always liked talking to other people who had an interest in music. It was a common ground that bonded almost everyone. Sure, people had different tastes in music; but, it just gave you more to talk about with others. Most of his really good friends had become his friends because they started out talking about music. Most of them he met in a music class or at a music store, some even at a Hot Topic. But, he’d just found over the years that music was something that could not only be used for expressing yourself but for bonding with others as well. Shaking his hand when Cody took her hand she then let go. She knew a lot of people got a kick out of her last name, it was not one you heard often. At least, she had never heard of someone aside from her and her family, with that last name. She liked to be original like that, not in an attention seeking way, she just liked having a different thought process and such. A lot of teenagers these days got too caught up in trying so hard to be original, and taking so much time on things that were not really important in life. The things she saw as important were things like family. She wasn't sure where she would be without her family. She loved them to death and would do absolutely anything for them. She was glad when she saw him shake his head, and he said that he was not bothered by her being in here. "Okay good, 'cause I would've left if that was the case. I don't like botherin' people if their concentratin'." Jessica said with a tiny smile. Crossing one leg over the other she noticed him look at her guitar and a larger smile came to her features. She loved that guitar and took very good care of it. You could almost say it was her baby. She cared for it as much as she did for her family, which may sound odd. However, to her, it didn't sound odd at all. When he asked if she was a musician the smile on her features widened, "Yes, I love playin' guitar. Messed around with the piano a bit, but my heart is for the guitar." She explained, "I've been playin' since I was 11, singin' since I could speak." She told him. When he said that he loved to sing she giggled softly in happiness, "It's the best feeling in the world, when your up there on stage and all eyes are on you and then people tell you that your voice gives them the chills. Isn't it?" She asked, her eyes practically glistening in the light at the memories of people saying that to her.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. A smile brightened Cody’s features as he listened to Jess talk about being on stage and the thrill of it. She spoke with the passion of a true performer and her eyes shined brightly as she spoke. Cody nodded in agreement and said, “Yes, there’s nothing quite like it.” Cody often dreamed of getting a record deal, of touring the world. He would love to get signed to some big label, to sing on stage for a living. It was something he dreamed of since he was little. Every time he set foot on stage, he felt like he belonged there. But, he knew it was a difficult business, and there were many people out there who wanted it just as badly as he did. So, it was really a shot in the dark. “I dream of being signed one day; but, I guess so does thousands of others.”
Cody didn’t like to sound pessimistic. He was usually a really optimistic person; but, he did know for sure that it was difficult to make it in the music industry and that he was up against the masses. It didn’t mean he’d stop trying, though. Cody wasn’t a quitter. He set out a long time ago to see his name in lights, and he wouldn’t ever just quit. It was something he wanted too much to just give up on. “Music is my life. I live for singing on stage.” He spared a glance at the piano before saying, “I’m not all that great at music composition or playing, though. I’m more of a lyricist and singer.” tag;; open word count;; 266 ooc;;

Jessica looked at Cody, the smile still present on her features. She then briefly moved out of her seat to get her guitar before she took a seat down on the chair she had just occupied a few seconds ago. Holding onto her precious guitar she let her arms rest against it as he nodded and agreed with her. Her smile widened at his comment on how there really was nothing quite like it. She got goose bumps every time she went on stage and people cheered and clapped for her. She doubted that feeling would ever go away. When he said that he dreamed of being some day she smiled, "It's always good to dream though, right?" She asked. She too would love to be signed, and of course she would try her hardest to be able to be on stage with a label record, but that's not why she got into music. She wasn't after the fame, she was just after the passion and thrill she felt every time she picked up her guitar or started signing. It didn't matter where she did it, she could be in walmart for all she cared in all honesty. She knew there was some great competition, especially in this academy, but she was going to try as hard as they could, if not harder to live out her dream of being able to record in a study and sell thousands of CDs. Even if just one person brought her CD she would be happy. She had to agree when he said music was his life, "Mine too." She said before she strummed her guitar once, she didn't even realize she had done it. Sometimes if she was bored and just holding her guitar she would just randomly start playing. She was a bit corny like that, her guitar was almost like a security blanket to her. It was always there when she needed it. If she was upset she would go up to her room just to play and it always made her feel better. "I would love to hear you sing some time." Jessica said, a smile still on her lips.

I'm strong on the surface, not all the way through...
...I've never been perfect, but neither have you. Cody smiled when Jess absentmindedly strummed her guitar. It was almost like him with his singing. He’d be sitting somewhere and starting singing softly to himself or humming. If he was at a piano he had to play it randomly as well, or twist his fingers in his lap like he was doing at that moment. He smiled when she said that she’d like to hear him sing sometime. He loved singing for people and he loved singing like all the time. “Well, if you spend enough time around me, you’ll probably hear me start randomly singing,” he said with a smile. He had a habit of randomly bursting out into song, especially if the room was quiet. It often got on his brother’s nerves, but that just made Cody want to do it all the more. “But, if you promise to play for me sometime, I promise I’ll sing for you sometime.” He knew class would be starting soon, and he wasn’t looking forward to it as much anymore. He was really enjoying getting to know Jess; and, he hoped that he had made a new friend out of the encounter. He loved making friends, especially when they seemed to be genuinely nice people. Though Cody could be a bit naive it didn’t mean he couldn’t tell when someone was truly kind and caring. tag;; open word count;; ooc;; ick my muse has gone funny

Playing random chords on her guitar softly she smiled gently when Cody smiled. Glancing down at her guitar she then looked up at him when he said that she would probably hear him if she spent enough time around him. "Well I hope we run into each other again, your nice to talk to." Jessica said as she continued to mess around with different chords. When she noticed one was a bit to of tune she turned the knob gently until she heard it in tune again. She too had a habit of just randomly bursting out into song, or just start playing around with her guitar(like she was right now). She wasn't shy about public singing, and one would hope not when this is the career she chose for herself. When he said if she promised to play for him sometime, that he would sing for her sometime. She was about to suggest that she could right now when she saw that class was going to start in 5 minutes, which brought a frown to her features. "Guess that'll have to wait till later, huh?" She asked before a sad smile briefly took over her features. Though she was curious about what they would be doing in class today. She hadn't been here for very long, so she was still getting used to the differences about here and her old school.
