Alice nodded knowingly, but more to herself than to Tomas. She crossed her arms. If he didn't want to talk a lot right now, that was fine. Alice loved to talk. They went so well together... Alice almost snorted at the thought. She was probably getting annoying, but considering she was Alice, she kept talking.
"Well, I got a dorm with a few girls but I spend a lot of time at my house, too. It's not far from here, a little outside the big apple, so there's a goddamned toll to get out there. But I like my house. It's... homier." She laughed. Somethimes Alice wondered why she wasn't a blonde. She sure deserved to be one. But she was a natural redhead. Of course, her current color was a far cry from natural. And she had figured out last year how awful her hair looked black.
She then realized he had brought along a guitar. Purposely ignoring the clock, she uncrossed her arms and gestured at the instrument. "You play too?" She asked. She knew that for time's sake she may have to shut up soon, but she didn't bother. Not yet. She wanted to earn this boy's trust first.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas listened with a small smile on his face as she talked about the dorm and her home. He lived with his foster family during breaks, but during regular school he stayed in the dorms because he was required to by scholarship. He understood what she meant about home being ‘homier’. He felt that the dorms were really just a place to stay for a temporary amount of time. He only felt at home when he was with his family. Tomas had forgotten he’d brought his guitar until she gestured at it, making him look over at it. He nodded once and said, “My dad taught me.” Cale had taught him how to play guitar when Tomas was twelve, just before Cale and Tracy offered to adopt him. Even though he knew Cale wasn’t really his father, he’d always considered the man to be his dad. He’d never met his real dad and didn’t think he ever wanted to. As far as anyone who wasn’t one of his closest friends knew, Cale really was his father.
“D’you play an instrument or do you just sing? I-I don’t mean ‘just sing’ like singing’s a bad thing or anything…I just meant…uhm…yeah…” He looked down at the ground again, shuffling his feet slightly. He felt pretty ridiculous for having freaked out as if afraid he’d offended her or something. He was pretty positive she knew he hadn’t meant it in a negative way; but, he couldn’t stop himself from reacting like he had.tag;; alice/open word count;; ooc;;

Alice had also had a mentor for guitar. Her oldest brother, Carter, played for a band once. Of course, he'd dropped out of both that and college to take care of her and Nathan, which was so heroic in Alice's eyes. Who else would do something like that?
"Nah, I play guitar. And a little bit of drums. But drums and vocals are, like, impossible to fit together. So I usually stick to guitar. My oldest brother taught me." She smiled convincingly, mostly to herself, and before she knew it, she was staring at Tomas. When she realized it, she shook it off like she'd spaced out. Actually, she wondered what he was going through. Everyone had secrets, of course.
After she'd considered it, Alice added, "I think you should come over to my place sometimes. I got two great brothers; I think you'd really like them. They're both great guys. You probably would've liked Liam--" Alice froze. She hadn't said his name in forever. It stabbed her in the heart to say it.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. He looked up when he heard her talking about playing guitar and that her brother had taught her. He smiled slightly, finding that he enjoyed listening to her talk. When he noticed she was staring at him, he frowned a bit; but, then she seemed to shake a thought off and he figured she’d just been lost in thought. She started talking about her family and him possibly going over to her place. The only person whose family he really knew anything was Cody’s; and, that was because the two of them grew up together. So, he’d spent a lot of time at the Trümper’s when he was younger. Then, Alice mentioned someone named Liam and stopped talking. She looked stunned, and like she might cry. Tomas didn’t know what to do and felt pretty useless. He bit his lip for a second before saying, “A-are you okay?” He thought it was a pretty ridiculous question, actually; but, he didn’t know what else to say. He’d never been good when dealing with others, especially if they were upset about something.
Of course, his friends had always been an exception to that; but, that was just because he knew them well enough to know how to react around them when they were upset or needed someone to talk to. One thing Tomas had always been good at was listening. Even when he may not always be able to say the right things, he knew that sometimes all someone really needed was just someone to listen to them.tag;; alice/open word count;; 256 ooc;;

Alice nodded, blinking. She was getting a little carried away. That was alright; she was good at pretending. Especially pretending she was perfectly normal. It was a talent of hers, and Carter had once suggested she go into the acting industry. That was a stretch, though.
"No, no, I'm good." she said, flashing Tomas a reassuring smile. As she did, she wondered if anyone else in the school had a worse family life than she. Probably, came the answer from her head. It could be anybody, including the boy standing in here with her. Noticing the clock, Alice sighed. It would be a stretch to try and keep him here. But she was determined to get something out of him.
"And I was serious about coming over to my house. I'm sure my brothers would appreciate the company. And musicians gotta stick together, ya know?" Alice laughed as a gentle smile spread across her face. This boy seemed real nice, and it was a shame that he wouldn't open up more to her. She was kind of starting to like him, actually.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Alice nodded before saying she was fine and smiling. Tomas didn’t fully believe her, but if she didn’t want to talk about it, there wasn’t anything he could do. He was never one to pry about things. His view was that if someone wanted to talk about anything that may be bugging them, they will. So, he just smiled slightly in return. “And musicians gotta stick together, ya know?" Tomas smiled at her statement and her laughter. He wasn’t quite sure what to say, and worried about saying something stupid again or fumbling over his words, so he just nodded. He felt a lot more comfortable around her than he had when he’d first gotten there; but, he was nowhere near as comfortable as he was around his friends like Cody. He found himself hoping that he would, though; because he liked talking to her…well, the little talking he did. He liked being around her, anyway. She seemed really nice, like someone he could see himself being friends with if he’d just open up a bit more. He didn’t know why it was so hard for him to get to know someone at first, but then once he did he had no problems being around them. “So…uhm…d’you have this class? I mean, when the bell rings…for, uh, for first class?” he asked, once again sounding completely unsure and awkward. Yes, awkward was definitely a good word to describe him.tag;; alice/open word count;; 239 ooc;;

Alice gasped quietly and whispered, more to herself, "Oh, shit." She smiled quickly afterwards, making sure Tomas knew the comment wasn't directed at him. She had realized it was way too close to class time to be hanging around anymore.
Alice began to collect her papers. She stopped halfway through to answer, which she'd nearly forgotten to do. "Yeah. I've been here for, like, an hour finishing up this song. I was supposed to perform to perform today... Gah, who knows?" She grinned lopsidedly and placed the papers on top of her guitar, which was laying in its case on the big wooden desk. She snapped it shut.
"How about you?" She asked, reaching up to move her bangs out of the way. Alice hated how her hair did that; it fell where it pleased and she didn't have any control over it. At least she got to pick the color. Oh, well.
She looked up at Tomas again, eyebrows raised inquisitively. "Do you need to go get your stuff? I've already got everything I need," she said, heaving the guitar case to the back corner of the room so she could get to it later to perform her song. All she could hope was that she'd recieve a decent grade on an assignment for once.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. He watched her as she talked, gathering her papers again. When she asked if he had the class too, he nodded once, not sure if she saw it or not. Then when she asked if he had to go get anything, he shook his head. “No, I’ve got everything,” he said. He’d brought his guitar and his bag because he planned on getting some work in before class, but that hadn’t happened. He didn’t mind so much, though. He wasn’t scheduled to share his project until the next class period. He still had plenty of time to go over his completed project. He did find it slightly odd that they had the same class together and he hadn’t noticed her. It didn’t come as a surprise that she hadn’t noticed him. He successfully tried to blend into the background and not be noticed. Still, he thought he’d have noticed someone like her before. But, things were just weird that way. He knew that if it hadn’t been for the Hartmans living next door to the Trümpers, he’d have never met Cody. He probably wouldn’t have befriended the other boy, either, if they hadn’t lived next door to each other. He smiled slightly at her before saying, “I’m sure your song will be great.” It wasn’t often he came to assumptions like that; but, he had learned from experience that the people who put the most time and effort into their work tended to do the best.tag;; alice/open word count;; 246 ooc;;

Alice came back up to the front of the room where Tomas was. She smiled again, an odd habit of hers. As she realized she'd have to sing in front of Tomas, too, Alice felt an odd sensation of nerves. She didn't want to mess it up now. Damn, now this was an even harder assignment than it had been before.
She nodded and replied, "Thanks. I wish I could say the same." She coughed jokingly. Since they'd both be in here for a little while longer, Alice prompted Tomas to speak. "So, you got any brothers or sisters?" She asked wondering if that was a dumb question. Oh, well. No answer was ever really stupid-sounding to her. She should have been born a blonde, and she could always win a stupid-answer competition.
All that left her to wonder was that she hoped she hadn't tried to pry something out of him that he didn't want to share. Aside from Nathan and Carter, she was pretty touchy about her family. They were her past, her background, and she'd done her best to erase the memories. It was all she could do to keep from becoming like them.

Even the best fall down sometime…
…Even the wrong words seem to rhyme. Tomas smiled slightly when she asked about any siblings. “I’ve got a little sister…Kimmy,” he replied. “Well, technically we’re not related…but she’s as good as my sister. I live with her and her parents. I mean, uh, they’re my foster family; but…I mean, they’re the only family I’ve ever known. I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Kimmy was three years younger than him, and she knew quite well that Tomas wasn’t really her brother. But as far as the four of them were concerned, Tomas was a part of the family. He may have passed up the adoption out of respect for his mother, but it didn’t mean he cared about the Hartmans any less. He stood there for a few seconds before he realized that he had actually told her about Kimmy and the Hartmans. Usually he wouldn’t talk about it because people would pity him or something when he didn’t want it or need it. He knew there were people in the world worse off than he was; and, he at least had people who cared about him. He would have asked her more about her family, but he remembered that the last time she talked about them. He didn’t want to ask the wrong thing and upset her, and knowing his way with words, he figured it’d be best to just avoid asking. “They’re great…the Hartmans, I mean. They’ve always been really supportive and stuff.” tag;; alice/open word count;; 238 ooc;;
